Sixth Form Students celebrate outstanding results at Nonsuch

Three of the Nonsuch students notified that they achieved among the top marks nationally
The publication of A-Level results on Thursday 14 August gave rise to
celebration for the Class of 2008. 82.5% of entries achieved A or B
grades, eight students achieved 600 UCAS points or more and a pass rate
of 100% was achieved. Four students have been notified that they performed
among the top A-Level candidates in English Literature, English Language
and Literature and in Human Biology.
9 students from this cohort have secured Oxbridge places and all students
holding university offers for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science
have secured their places.
39 students attained Advanced Extension Awards, 14 at Distinction and
25 at Merit.
In the first year of all students taking Critical Thinking at A-Level
we are delighted with the very high pass rate. A significant number
of universities have awarded places on the basis of a Critical Thinking
qualification.
Mrs Espejo (Headmistress) is delighted with the results this year and
commented, this is the culmination of much hard work and commitment
from students, their teachers and their parents. Girls have excelled
and we are enormously proud of every one of them.
GCSE results – the average points score achieved at Nonsuch is outstanding
Results for the current GCSE cohort are excellent. The average point score per candidate is exceptionally high at 609.01. All students achieved the DFES measure of 5 A* to C grades including English and Mathematics. One student achieved 13 A * grades and some 60 students achieved 10 or more A* and A grades.
This is the first year when all students have followed Triple Science
courses. This initiative has proved highly successful with 78 % of Science
entries achieving A* or A. Nonsuch, a science specialist school, is
exceptional in entering essentially a full cohort (178 candidates) for
Triple Science.
A number of students in this cohort have been fast-tracked for Maths or for German. They sat AS examinations in these subjects very successfully alongside their GCSE examinations. Italian GCSE was taught after school as an enrichment activity for Gifted and Talented linguists – very high grades were achieved after only one year of study.
Mrs Espejo is very proud of the girls’ GCSE achievements. “So high an average point score is indicative of the breadth and stretch of the GCSE curriculum at Nonsuch. Students have much to celebrate and they have laid very firm foundations for their Advanced Level studies in the Sixth Form.”
