Bletchley Park
|
60 Year 8 girls, who took part in the Cipher Challenge in the Autumn
term, visited Bletchley Park to learn more about the code breaking efforts
of mathematicians prior to and during the 2nd World War.
The girls had a guided tour around the grounds which included brief
talks on the secrecy of mail that arrived at Bletchley Park, the role
of 3 Polish mathematicians in helping with understanding the mathematics
behind the Enigma machines and the building of the first electronic
computer. They saw a working replica of this computer named Colossus.
The girls had to break codes in the second session and even had a chance
to see the Enigma machine in action by entering their own messages and
having them deciphered.
