Design & Technology Department Website

The Design and Technology department at Nonsuch is staffed by a team of four experienced and enthusiastic specialists, led by Head of Department Mrs Gell. The department is housed in a suite of three large, bright, purpose-built rooms. The department also benefits from a technician who helps with preparation in all areas.

The department comprises of three areas, Food, Resistant Materials, and Textiles Technology. At KS3 pupils are given an opportunity to experience all areas of the D&T curriculum in group sizes of no more than twenty. In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils rotate around the three areas of the department and they are timetabled for three periods per fortnight. They will spend two half yearly sessions in each discipline. Homework is set on a regular basis.

The department is developing a range of software and hardware facilities, which pupils at all levels are encouraged to use.

A range of activities are organised outside lessons to ensure pupils receive the broadest D&T experience possible. We also offer lunchtimes and after school practical workshops. At KS4 and KS5 students are encouraged to make maximum use of external sources i.e. museums, libraries and exhibitions.
